About Us

Our Family, Our Foundation: The Story of The Shake Shak

Established on July 7, 2007, The Shake Shak is the brainchild of Matt and Lisa Maurer and their vibrant children – Adam, Jacob, Megan, Emily, Sarah, Lucas, and Caleb. Born from a vision to engage our family in a collaborative venture, The Shake Shak started as a hands-on project for our children to learn the ropes of business. From managing inventory and customer service to overseeing financials, they gained invaluable experience in the real world of commerce.

Central to our ethos is the quality of our offerings. We chose Hershey’s Premium Hand-Scooped ice cream and frozen yogurt for its unparalleled taste and texture, setting us apart in our quest for the perfect ice cream experience. With an ever-rotating array of over 16 daily flavors and a soft serve menu featuring over 36 single flavors, creativity in combinations is limitless. We take pride in our custom mix-ins and love seeing the unique creations our customers come up with!

Our Journey

The Shake Shak: More Than Just Ice Cream

As our journey continued, The Shake Shak evolved beyond ice cream. Embracing our love for the outdoors, we expanded to include a bait shop, offering live bait, minnows, fatheads, ice, and firewood – catering to the abundant fishing spots around Somerset County, PA. Our family's deep-rooted connection to the area is evident in our knowledge of local fishing tales and hidden gems.

Situated along the historical Old Lincoln Highway in “America’s County,” Somerset County, PA, our location is steeped in history and natural beauty. Close to landmarks like the Flight 93 Memorial and The Nine Miners Rescue Site, we're surrounded by stunning landscapes perfect for a range of outdoor activities. Our family has grown since 2007, now including 14 grandchildren, each adding to the charm and spirit of The Shake Shak. It's our joy to share this special place and our learnings with everyone who visits, offering a refreshing stop in their journey.
